About - Studio Parallel.
Studio Parallel is a software studio in Australia, built by two engineers, Joe Milburn and Hayden Richardson. We design and build custom software and stay close to every project we take on. Small on purpose, so the people you talk to are the people doing the work.

Two engineers, no handoffs.
When you hire Studio Parallel, you get Joe and Hayden. There's no account manager sitting between you and the people writing the code, and no offshore team picking up tickets overnight. You explain the problem to the two engineers who will build the software, and those same two engineers answer your messages from the first call until well after the work ships.
That setup changes how projects run. Decisions happen in one conversation instead of three. When a requirement is unclear, the person asking the question is the person writing the fix. Nothing gets lost in a handoff, because there are no handoffs.
Our engineering philosophy is plain: software should fit the business, not the other way around. We'd rather ship a small system that removes real friction this month than a sprawling one that arrives late and needs a manual. Every build starts with how your work actually flows, and the software bends to match it.
We keep our stack small on purpose so we can know it deeply. Web applications are built with Next.js. Data, auth, and APIs run on Supabase, which gives every project a real Postgres database rather than a black box. Mobile apps are native, built with Expo, so one codebase ships to both iOS and Android. It's the same stack behind our own product, Flow Channels, and behind client work like the clinic website for Rockhampton Podiatry, the fixed-fee site for Streamline Bookkeeping, and the artist site we shipped for Jaymon Bob while he was on Australian Idol.
How we think about software
Software that fits your business properly.
- 01Fit beats features
- Off-the-shelf tools carry the work for a long time, and there's no shame in using them. The trouble starts when the software begins shaping the work instead of supporting it.
- 02Custom closes the gap
- A custom build is shaped around the work it supports. The software bends to fit the problem. As a result, the friction that used to sit in the day to day quietly goes away.
- 03Worth building well
- Custom software has been too slow and too expensive for too long. What we do is make it reachable, built with care, on an honest timeline, by the two of us.
